As a wise drunk once told me, before barging in on a live television news broadcast to voice his rather unique opinions… “there ain’t nothing to it, but to do it.”
I thought it took real guts to do something like that, but he showed me.

A creative force not unlike Keller Williams, tUnE-yArDs‘ Merrill Garbus has forged a wonderful and entirely distinct sound. It’s built on her dynamic vocals, drum loops she creates on the fly, and a little help from a bassist and occasional horn. Merrill gots funky soul, and she wears it on the outside. But if it’s so easy, how come more of us don’t do it?
“Powa” is from W H O K I L L (2011) and the whole album is just as worth consuming as this beauty.
Enjoy.
